Education is the process of gaining new knowledge and experiences. A good teacher is someone who is passionate about assisting children in this process. Through education students acquire the knowledge and awareness of the world that will enable them to have the experience and freedom necessary to choose a healthy direction in life. Throughout their educational journey, students learn essential values and principles that will help them to lead a positive, productive life. In large, imparting education to the students enables the development of a responsible and thoughtful society. Education is vital for a healthy society envision my students learning experience to be positive, informative, fun, and exciting. I will always put in the extra effort to insure that my students gather a deep understanding of all the topics we cover. While teaching, I will always challenge my students so that as well as accumulating facts, they will develop their problem solving and cognitive reasoning skills. I will create an environment which enables my students to work effectively, and learn and play independently and collaboratively. I believe that students learn best when they are in a comfortable and safe learning environment. This includes the physical features of a classroom. I think that an open class structure with encouraging thoughts and pictures on the wall welcomes open lines of communication which is easier for sharing and having group discussion. Feeling safe and comfortable to ask questions and offer discussion will be a very important aspect of my classroom. Freedom of thought and expression will be welcomed and encouraged in my class. I am aware that learning involves the exploration of one’s identity and my class will be a secure place for this to take place. Children need a caring and stimulating environment in which there personal development can flourish. Having a safe classroom also involves the understanding of educational issues such as multicultural issues, inclusion of special needs children, and tolerance of the students. These particular issues are very important aspects that make up a school and it is very important that the students understand and act appropriately when dealing with situations involving such issues.
In order to keep the students interested in the subjects and topics we are studying, I will always keep my teaching fresh and bring in modern relevant examples to share with my class. Being enthusiastic is highly beneficial. By introducing new learning in a fun, exciting, creative way, I will maximize my students learning. My students will learn to interact with one another, have personal reflection, and think critically. I understand that students learn in a variety of ways.I will allow for various learning styles in my teachings so that I can reach all of my students. I will always work hard to leave no student behind, yet always challenge the more advanced students to keep them interested. Organizational skills will be necessary for me as a teacher. Through being highly organized, I will not only keep my students on track, but I will teach them to be organized for themselves.
I believe teachers work effectively with the students when the class understands and follows through with the classroom rules and etiquette. Enforcing cooperation and nice behaviour leads to positive learning environments. If the students are under control we will work well together. Building a good, solid relationship with the students is necessary. You have to have good student/teacher interaction. When open lines of communication have been established it is a good environment for teacher’s to work effectively with students. The relationship I will develop with my students, their parents, and my colleagues will be very open, friendly, honest, and respectful. I will be approachable as well as a good listener. I will be very encouraging to the students as well as to their parents and my colleagues. For example, I will let the students in the class know that it is ok to make mistakes. Through these mistakes we learn and grow. I will also be firm and direct with students when I need to be; such as with classroom rules and safety.
My beliefs about classroom management and discipline in the classroom are quite firm. You have to have control of your class at all times. I feel that both of these things are a very important part of the learning environment for students. I feel if you don’t enforce discipline or classroom management then your class can easily slip out of control and your students will be in control. I do, however, feel that there is a certain way to go about this. Just because you have discipline and management in the classroom, doesn’t mean that you have to be thought of as a mean or strict teacher. You just have to enforce the rules appropriately. Being firm with the rules of the class is enough to have classroom management. This for me is 100% necessary.
Assessment in my class will be a good chance for self-reflection with the students which I will apply with different techniques. The more I know about how students are learning the better I can assist with the teaching and plan specific learning activities in the areas needed. I feel that it is important to know the progress of my students learning. I will be undertaking assessment, evaluation, and reporting. I consider feedback to be extremely helpful and know that the students will be able to produce better work after they have feedback. I also feel that it is a good idea to have high, realistic expectations for my students so they know what kind of work they are aiming to achieve. Encouraging students to set goals is a great idea to help student stay on track. I feel this is a good model to have in the classroom. By believing in and having confidence in my students, I will help them gain confidence and believe in themselves.
As a teacher I am going to be constantly leading by example. I am going to expand my leadership roles beyond the classroom. I am going to be involved with the school community. I will do this in such ways as volunteer work, leading different groups or committees, participating in professional teacher organizations or taking part in school decisions. Through my behaviour, accomplishments and leadership, I will demonstrate professionalism. I understand that I am going to be a role model for the school community as well as in my own classes. I can be a good role model in such ways as my particular classroom management, my guiding principles in the class, building good student/teacher relationships, and interaction with parents and educational colleagues.
I am especially excited about becoming a teacher and learning more about the purpose of education. I am honoured to have the opportunity to touch the lives of others and I will do everything I can to help my students educational experience be rewarding and fulfilling. I know that this is a lifelong learning for me and I will continue to improve my teaching and relationship building skills. I will inspire my students to have a curiosity about the world around them. I aspire for my students to have a smooth, exciting educational journey in which I will support them from one step to the next. My students will have a great academic outcome. I will support them in laying a foundation of dreams and aspirations and I will give them the skills necessary to reach those dreams.
